Jim is a Costs Lawyer with over 25 years experience in the legal profession. Jim became an Associate Law Costs Draftsman in 1999 and a Costs Lawyer in 2011.
Upon leaving school, where he gained 5 “O” levels and 2 CSEs, Jim began his employment in the accounts department of Kingsford Flower and Pain, a large high street firm of Solicitors in Ashford, Kent. Jim’s main responsibilities were dealing with the financial transactions for the sale and purchases of commercial and residential properties, bank reconciliation, investment’s and liaising with the Partners regarding monthly reports.
Jim then started to cost some of the smaller legal aid family and criminal matters and later progressed to drafting larger Bills of Costs for the family, personal injury and criminal departments.Jim then joined Hickmans Legal Costing Services Ltd, a leading south east cost drafting firm where he was head of the family costing department. This role entailed the training and management of other employees along with drafting all types of Claim1s, Claim1As, Case Plans and Bill of Costs together with the negotiating of inter parties costs.Jim thereafter joined Kain Knight, the longest established independent firm of Costs Lawyers in the UK as the Assistant Manager in their Canterbury office. He was the firm’s head of Court of Protection dealing with general management costs, appointment of Deputy and Statutory Will applications along with legal aid Section 21A applications. He was also the team leader for the legal aid billing team training many of the team in Court of Protection and Judicial Review matters. Jim also conducted external Court of Protection and legal aid seminars to various clients.
Jim joined the Chatham office of Cost Law Services Limited in January 2018 where he has being dealing with inter parties Judicial Review and Housing matters. In addition to the aforementioned, Jim has experience in the following fields: CCMS cases, High Cost Case Plans, Points of Dispute and Replies, attending detailed assessment and CCMC hearings and Costs Budgeting.
Jim has been commended for the clear layout of his bills and been successful in claiming substantial enhancements on the legal aid guideline hourly rates on various cases.

Jim was also involved in a complex Wardship matter where a successful order was obtained to protect a child who had family members fighting for ISIS in Syria.
Outside of work, Jim lives with his partner Becca, step son Kian and his daughter Mia. Jim enjoys spending time with family and friends, eating out, watching films and sport, clay pigeon shooting and trout fishing. Jim has recently completed his 1st 10k run and has continued training for his next 10k race.
